1.    Environment Centre Updates

  • Household energy monitor loan project coming soon! The Hikurangi Foundation have kindly funded us to set up an pilot project loaning real time digital wireless electricity monitors through the TCC libraries-full project details coming soon,  or email: tgaec@xtra.co.nz

2.    Project Updates

  • Greening of events - We have been working with some great community organisations on building sustainability into their events planning - this includes the Maketu Seafood festival on Feb 27th and the Multicultural festival on 6 March 2010 - put them in your diary and come and support their efforts to green their events!

  •  Sustainable Backyards 2010 - Reminder to all those interested in being included in the events program to have a blurb, any images and register of interest form to tgaec.sby@xtra.co.nz by Jan 31st 2010.  It's looking like an action packed events calendar this year with four key events happening through the Tauranga Environment Centre including a guest speaker on food for a better life, a sustainable harbour cruise, the Funky Junk art exhibition at Te Puna Quarry Park and a sustainable houses tour!

  • Funky Junk - We are currently looking for volunteers to help out at the depot on Wednesday mornings.  Jobs include sorting stock, tidying the depot and meeting and greeting the public.  Contact Kim on tgaec.waste@xtra.co.nz for more info or to sign up as a volunteer.

  • Community Gardens Group (TTT) - Successful public meeting held on Wednesday 20th at Otumoetai Rail Reserve , to brainstorm community ideas to progress community gardens in Tauranga. Click here for more information.

  • BIKE WISE month - February. Full range of cycling events and activities planned, click here for more information on activities in Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty or pop into the Environment Centre for a leaflet
