The Mauao Care Group formed in April 2007 and has held regular working bees ever since. Work carried out by the Care Group include removing invasive weeds off the mount and replanting with native species common to the area. The Care Group also help keep the Mount clean with rubbish pick ups. The Mauao Care Group was awarded this year a comendation for all their efforts by WeedBusters NZ. In little over one year the Care Group has contributed over 500 hours to restore this iconic Bay of Plenty landmark.
