Greening of Events

TEC is currently working with the Ministry for the Environment Sustainable Mangement Fund (SMF) to undertake 'greening' of two events under the Kiwifestival umbrella.

  • Maketu Kaimoana festival (Saturday February 27 2010)
  • Multicultural festival (March 6 2010)

TEC is working with Tauranga City Council and the Western Bay of Plenty district council to implement the project and help festivals to meet their requirements under WBOP Bylaws which state that festivals run in the district must include a waste management plan in their resource consent process.

Kiwifestival runs for two weeks and includes a myriad of exciting events and festivals to promote the Bay of Plenty region as the foodbowl of New Zealand.  Check out www.kiwifestival.co.nz for more info about what will be happening from the 26 February to 6 March 2010.

Be a Green Event Goer!

You can help to make festivals in the Bay of Plenty greener!  Consider your impact and what legacy you leave behind when attending events and festivals.

You can reduce your eco- impact by:
  • BYOB - Bringing your own containers: if you bring your own re-useable containers from home it reduces the need for one use food and drink packaging.
  • Travel - Check out bus routes, cycle routes or walking routes to the festival you are heading to.  Team up with some friends and car-share to the festival.
  • Take Action - when at the event or festival look out for recycling bins and use them, if you don't think your festival is doing enough to reduce impacts on the environment let somebody know!
